The Care and Feeding of Sailing Crew
has become the preferred resource for cruising and racing sailors—whether they’re planning a weekend afloat or a round-the-world voy-age. This unique volume covers everything from outfitting a galley to organizing meals safely in rough weather; from controlling seasickness to creating the right conditions for a well-rested crew.

This third edition has been expanded to incorporate new information on nutrition, on waste disposal, and on current methods for handling finances, officialdom, and the paperwork involved in sailing to new coun-tries. New sections cover entertaining on board, feeding vegetarian crew, choosing clothing for sailing offshore, and incorporat-ing modern technology in the galley. The unique guides to reprovisioning as you voy-age and buying wines and liquors around the world have been expanded to include many off-the-beaten track destinations now attracting intrepid voyagers.

Lin has been caring for sailing crews since 1965. With Larry, she has accumulated sea miles that equal almost seven circumnavi-gations. As a couple, they have delivered boats and cared for hired crew, raced under sail, and worked on commercial fishing boats.

Since the publication of the second edition of Care and Feeding, Lin and Larry have voyaged an additional 35,000 miles, including an east-to-west rounding of Cape Horn. The Ocean Cruising Club, Seven Seas Cruising Association, and the Royal Oceanic Society have all recognized the Pardeys with awards acknowledging their sailing accom-plishments and their contributions to the sport. They have also been inducted into the Cruising World Hall of Fame.

“The Care and Feeding of Sailing Crew is, quite sim-ply, a great book, one that wraps plenty of solid, hard-earned practical advice within the pages of a good old-fashioned tale of high-seas adventure. For any off-shore sailor, I couldn't recommend it more highly...”
Herb McCormick, Editor, Cruising World

“A veritable gold mine.”
Richard Buffum, Los Angeles Times

“The Care and Feeding of Sailing Crew is one of my very favorite books (in the Pardey collection and among cruising books overall).”
Karen Larson, Editor, Good Old Boat

“The best reference for serious sailors. Not only does cruising authority Lin Pardey share her invaluable provisioning insights, she amusingly conveys what it is like to live aboard and cook at sea.”
Barbara Marrett, Contributing Editor, Cruising World

“Not just another cookery book ....tips and tackle for rough weather cooking and indeed almost any-thing else which could turn up in round-the-world sailing.”
Lloyds List, UK

“A fine, useful, tightly organized manual with a sense of anecdotal immediacy... I enjoyed The Care and Feeding, all 4,548 miles of it.”
Patience Wales, Editor Emeritus, Sail magazine

“...Should be in the library of any sailor planning to set sail and should be referred to regularly while fit-ting- out the vessel, while planning menus and when on passage.”

Neil Rusch, Editor, South African Yachting

“A distillation of the best information on that vital subject—eating well at sea.”
Guernsey Evening Press, Channel Islands

“This meaty book should help any sailor preparing himself and his galley and cabins for sea.”
Yachting, USA
