Visitors to Sail Expo in Oakland,
CA will be invited to come on board 29 foot Taleisin,
the boat that has taken Lin and Larry Pardey over 67,000
miles including a doubling of Cape Horn. Lin and Larry
will be joining BAADS (Bay Area Association of Disabled
Sailors) from April 18th to April 22 at Jack London
Square to raise awareness of the sailing opportunities
offered by BAADs not only for those with disabilities
but for anyone looking for a way to get out sailing.
Members of BAADS and special volunteers will be on board
to show special features of the boat. Lin and Larry
will be available for at least six hours each day to
answer your sailing questions. A raffle to raise funds
to keep BAADS floating on its waterline will be going
on all during the show with the draw on Sunday at 4
PM. You need not be present to win. Prizes already donated
by Paradise Cay Publications, Svendson Marine, Good
Old Boat and the Pardey's include among other items,
sailing artworks, fleece jackets, a hydrostatically
inflated personal floatation vest. The prizes can be
viewed at the booth in the main tent where Lin and Larry
will also be signing books including their newest release,
the Revised and Expanded third edition of Care and feeding
of Sailing Crew.
The authors of ten books and producers of three DVD's
on offshore cruising, the Pardey's have voyaged on
their own boats and delivered other peoples boats
over 200,000 miles. Recipients of many awards, including
the OCC award, SSCA Service Award, Geoff Pack Award
for contributions to the sport of Sailing, they have
been called, "the Enablers" for encouraging
others to get out on the water.
During the show, Lin will be presenting seminars
called Sixteen Ways to Keep your Lover - encouraging
your partner to make the dream her own and Cost Control
while you cruise. This will be the only scheduled
appearance of Lin and Larry at a Boatshow or seminar
this year as their plans are to voyage southward on
board Taleisin soon afterwards.
